No Margarine Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing (2 recipes)

Updated: Apr 8, 2021

Presentation: 6/10. The shapes of the cookies and the icing came out really messy, but to be honest I like the unique shapes you don't often see on a cookie. I also like the contrast of color and the whiteness of the icing.

Taste: Cookies: 8/10. They were really sweet and delicious. Icing: 8/10. The icing was sweet with the slightest of tartness from the powdered sugar. Overall: 11/10.

Texture: Cookies: 10/10. Some sugar cookies are too crumbly or too bland, but this cookie was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Icing: 9/10. It hardened perfectly and had the right amount of flakiness. Overall: 10/10.

Time/Convenience: Cookies: 6/10. The recipe was pretty easy, but shaping the cookies was impossible. The dough was sticky and hard to work with. In the end I had to bake it into one giant cookie and break it into shards after it baked. Icing: 5/10. I had to get piping tools and meringue powder, and it was time consuming to ice them. Overall: 4/10. Baking cookies is long enough, but having to cool them THEN make the icing THEN ice them lengthened the recipe.

All in all: Cookies: 7.5/10. Icing: 7/10. Overall: 7.75/10. YUM!
